PRESS RELEASE: DELTATEC Delivers First Flight Models of Thermal Infrared Camera Core to Lambda-X for Earth Observation Missions
Liège, Belgium – June 2026 – DELTATEC is proud to announce the successful delivery of a first batch of four flight models of its Thermal Infrared (TIR) Camera Core to Lambda-X for Earth observation applications. A second batch of 5 units has been recently ordered.
This milestone represents an important step in the collaboration between DELTATEC and Lambda-X in the field of space imaging systems. The delivered flight models are integrated into Earth observation instruments dedicated to thermal imaging from orbit.
A Compact and High-Performance Thermal Infrared Solution
The DELTATEC TIR Camera Core is a compact, low-power thermal infrared imaging module designed specifically for space missions. Operating in the 8–14 µm spectral range, the camera core enables thermal measurements of the Earth’s surface, supporting applications such as environmental monitoring, climate observation, and resource management.
Despite its compact size and lightweight design, the camera core delivers affordable imagery with a 1280 x 1204 detector and excellent thermal sensitivity (NETD 50 mK). Designed for Low Earth Orbit missions with a lifetime of 5 years, the system combines performance, robustness, and efficiency, while consuming less than 4 W of power.
The camera core has successfully completed an extensive qualification campaign, including vibration and shock testing, thermal vacuum testing, electromagnetic compatibility verification, and radiation tolerance assessments. These tests emphasize the system’s ability to operate reliably in the demanding space environment.
With flexible data interfaces and adaptable architecture, the TIR Camera Core can be integrated into a wide range of Earth observation platforms.
Strengthening a Strategic Partnership
The delivery of these four flight models demonstrates DELTATEC’s capability to transition from development to qualified flight hardware and confirms the maturity of its TIR technology. DELTATEC looks forward to continuing its collaboration with Lambda-X in the development of innovative optical and imaging payloads for space missions.
